The National Union of Students is the peak body of student unions in Australia. Individual campus unions (like ANUSA) affiliate to it, and can send delegates to its National Conference, which is where the policy and officebearers of the NUS are decided. ANUSA gets 7 NUS delegates, and we're running for those spots.
The problems we face as students are national. Fighting for better education, against Australia's support for genocide in Palestine, social justice issues, and against the cost of living all require national mobilisations. So we're not just running for ANUSA -- our vision is also a vision for the NUS.
Candidates on No Cuts - Free Palestine will be voting with the Socialist Alternative bloc at NUS. Socialist Alternative officebearers have been able to use NUS to run successful national campaigns in the past, like:
Playing a crucial role in the same-sex marriage campaign in 2017
Counterprotesting transphobic activist Posie Parker all across Australia in 2023
Running the People's Inquiry into Free Speech on Palestine in 2024-25
In August this year, running the National Student Referendum on Palestine, with more than 5,000 students participating
We need your votes for No Cuts - Free Palestine NUS delegates to keep up this work. Delegates get to vote on what policy the NUS takes up, and who should hold offices in the NUS. With more socialist NUS delegates, we can get more done.
