Our university is being torn apart. Genevieve Bell is slashing jobs and courses in the name of profit. Historic attacks on education like these demand resistance, which is exactly what No Cuts at ANU has been at the heart of. We’ve organised the biggest protest on ANU campus in decades and successfully pressured university management into stopping further cuts, but we’ll need to take things even further to win our demands. But while we’ve been building a mass student movement, ANUSA has been organising tame cat surveys and refusing to call to sack Genevieve Bell.
Reverse ‘Renew ANU’.
Sack Genevieve Bell and Julie Bishop.
Free education for all students.
We are witnessing a live-streamed genocide. Gaza City is being invaded and occupied. By the end of September, more than 640 000 people will face catastrophic levels of food insecurity as a result of Israeli blockade. Our government is complicit in all of this. The Australian government continues to trade with Israel, including military jet components which have been used to bomb children.
Students have historically led anti-war movements. Right now is a key moment for us to increase pressure on our government. ANUSA should put all of its resources into fighting our government and university’s complicity in the crime of our generation.
Demand Labor sanction Israel and end the two way arms trade.
Kick weapons companies off campus.
Fight for freedom of speech on campus.
Our student union should fight for left-wing issues. Misogyny, transphobia and the far right are on the rise. Labor and Liberal governments continue to blame immigrants, refugees, international students in racist campaigns. Both have implemented anti-Indigenous law and order campaigns.
Students have a role to play in fighting against oppression and the far right. ANUSA, run by bureaucrats, produce nothing but endless surveys in the face of this. In a climate crisis, new fossil fuel projects continue to be approved in Australia. Meanwhile, in 2025, the Labor students in ANUSA spent the first semester trying to abolish the Environment Collective.
We think all of these issues are connected, and we have a proud record of fighting all these fronts. It’s about time ANUSA did too.
Fight the far right
Defend and extend LGBTI rights
Oppose sexism
Fight racism - we're for immigrant, international student, and refugee rights
Black Lives Matter - oppose anti-indigenous racism
No new coal or gas
Fight for affordable student accomodation
The things we want as left-wing students – no cuts, sanctions on Israel, fighting for social justice – always put us at odds with our government and Vice Chancellors. There’s no amount of polite convincing that will change this. The only power we have as students is in fighting back: protesting, stopping business as usual, creating a fuss for the status quo. Bring back the heroic student unions of the 70s, fighting against the Vietnam War, or in 2014, against huge attacks on education. Student unions shouldn’t just be one part of this, but lead left-wing sentiment, and be activist, fighting bodies.
Do less parties, more protests! What’s a student union for?
Fight against our government (and Labor) – never campaign for them!
Turn the ANUSA offices into an activist drop-in space!
